Membership Benefits and Activities

Guests are welcome to attend a General Meeting! We'd love to meet you!

One of our primary services is a nationwide network of local chapters for mothers who are - by choice or circumstance - altering their participation in the paid workplace over the course of their active parenting years. Our chapters are structured to support a woman, as a mother and an individual, as she navigates the challenges of her daily life - whether she is a full-time family caregiver or struggling to achieve a better balance between the demands of paid work and family care. Over 175 chapters coast to coast and in London, England provide opportunities at twice monthly meetings to explore relevant topics for all mothers, often with the aid of a guest speaker.

Joining Mothers & More includes membership in both our local chapter and the national organization.

National Benefits
On a national level, your membership entitles you to many services and benefits.

The Forum:  A unique national bimonthly publication focusing on work and family issues, survival techniques for life at home and in the workplace, ideas for personal enrichment, book reviews, author interviews, and other subjects of interest to sequencing women

Online Services:  An interactive web site with a variety of "members-only" services, such as e-mail loops, online chats, message boards with guest speakers, monthly topics, and timely news and information of interest to sequencing women.

Advocacy:  Opportunities to participate in online discussions of issues impacting mothers.  Ways to get involved in efforts to promote the value of the work mothers do and eliminate policies and attitudes that unfairly impact mothers as caregivers.

Brain, Child: the magazine for thinking mothers (NEW member benefit option!):  An award-winning, quarterly print publication that presents motherhood the way it really is through personal essays and in-depth features, debates, fiction, book reviews, news and humor.

Local Benefits
Here is a sampling of activities offered by the Montgomery County chapter.

Monthly Meetings: Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesdays and 4th Thursday of most every month from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Meadowood Retirement Community.  Located in Worcester, it is the center point of Montgomery County.  Meetings are for moms only with the exception of infants up to six months old. Our meetings offer an opportunity for open or planned discussion groups, or guest speakers, alternating with social events for moms. Guests are welcome!

Newsletters: You receive two—ten issues a year specific to our chapter and a bi-monthly publication from the National organization!

Moms’ Nights Out: At least once a month a social event is offered for mom’s only in order to give us a well-deserved break and have some fun.  Events include going out to eat, chocolate potlucks, going to the movies, wine tasting, spa nights, sitting in someone’s hot tub, going to hear some live music, etc. We are always open to new ideas.

Playgroups: Playgroups are multiple times during the week. Playgroups are held at neighborhood parks or at homes of members and various special outings to other indoor sites. While we offer opportunities for both infant and toddler level playgroups, this varies with each year’s membership needs.

Sunshine Program: Volunteers help each other in times of need in the form of supplying meals, babysitting or running some quick errands for the mom in need.

Community Service: Our chapter is very involved in community service opportunities, which benefit women and children within the Montgomery County area.  Since our inception as an organization, we have supported Nehemiah's Way and Laurel House both of which provide a safe haven for women and their families suffering as a result of domestic violence.   Our philanthropic efforts have included an annual coat drive, biannual clothing drives, holiday children's book collection and financial and stress management seminars.

Online Network: Even when you can’t get out of your house, you’re connected to your chapter for nearly instant advice on everything from good restaurants to sibling squabbling.  Our web site and e-mail loop/discussion board, which we continue to develop on a daily basis, also allows members to keep track of our calendar, get connected to our national organization and tap local parenting resources.

Intergenerational Program: Holiday activities such as a Halloween Party, a Valentine's Party, and Family Picnics are arranged for children and moms to interact with residents of Meadowood Retirement Community.  Who can resist a visit to the local retirement home to share ice cream with the residents?

Children’s Activities: The root of Mothers & More is children, after all.  Whether it’s a trip to the zoo or a nature hike at an area park, our children’s activities offer fun for kids (and moms!) of all ages. Other seasonal activities organized for members may include apple picking, museum trips, the zoo trips, farm visits and picnics.

Leadership opportunities:  Keep work skills current or acquire new ones by volunteering time and talent in a variety of areas, including meeting topics coordination, membership, online services, publications, media relations, marketing, advocacy or development.

Seasoned Moms: Moms with school-age children meet informally, participate in the Book Club or try a New Food Fridays event.

Book Clubs: The Book Club meets every six weeks at homes of members or a restaurant to discuss the chosen book for that month.

New Food Fridays: The first Friday of each month we meet at a new restaurant to discover favorite local eateries and enjoy good company.

Members Only Web Page: Our local site gives members a link to our monthly newsletters, the book club reading list, a list of our members including home businesses and contact information, and a link to our egroup in yahoogroups.

Discount Shopping: Each year we get a jump-start on Christmas shopping at a discount!  A large list of local businesses donates to our annual silent auction, and proceeds support Mothers & More.

And More: Varying from member interest and volunteers year to year, we have had many other regular activities such as an Entrepreneur’s Club, Cooking Club, Craft or Scrapbooking Group, and even Mom’s Only Weekend Retreats!  Which diverse interests will you bring?

While many of our members are full-time stay-at-home moms, a significant number are employed outside the home either full or part-time. Whatever your situation, Mothers & More is a dynamic network of women and a wonderful way to meet other moms and children in the community. You may participate in as many activities as you wish – attendance is not a requirement. Membership dues are $45 per year, a portion of which goes to our local chapter, the remainder to our national organization.
